Too old to rush?

Hey everyone,

I am currently attending GSC, but plan on transferring to the University of Georgia sometime next year. I was hoping to join a fraternity, but I am not sure if I will be too old. I am currently 20 years old but I will be 21 at the end of this month, so by the time I transfer I should be late 21, early 22. Chances are I will transfer as a Junior, or late Sophomore. I realize that the Greek organizations differ from school to school, but do you guys have any knowledge through your own personal experiences on your campuses? Thanks everyone for your help!

yea probably. I wanted to rush my junior year (1st semester) but decided not to and right no there is no way i can rush (probably have 2 years left). IDK why would you want to rush if you are going to take tougher set of classes bc your most likely going to do poorly the semester you rush unless you take an extremely easy schedule with like 4 classes and maybe 1 phys ed. Seriously rushing is tough and will really wear on you but if your into a lot of friends, partying, and benefits from being in a frat, you should do it.

you’re my boy, blue

i pledged as a 20 year old sophomore, there was a junior in my pledge class but he was technically my age since he graduated high school a year early.
more impressive, he pledged as a second semester junior neuroscience major.

My H pledged as a 25 year-old Army veteran, but this was 30 years ago at an out-of-the-way school where Greek influence was minimal. A lot depends on the school and chapter, but from where I sit, all they can do is say no.

Dude I’ll tell you how it is. I’m in a fraternity at USC (southern california) and have seen crush a couple times so I know how we decide this. We give preference to freshman and sophomores just because they’re going to be there longer. Why would we take a senior who is going to graduate in like a year, make sense? With that said, we have a guy who’s like 24 or something. We decided to take him because he’s only like a junior or sophomore in standing. (started school late) He’s a sick guy and seem stoked on our house. Obviously frats don’t typically take older guys, but if you’re sick and seem like youd be good for the house then yeah it can work. Some guys have this age hangup though, cuz of like younger guys being able to tell you what to do, but once you’re done pleding a bro’s a bro, bro.
