too prestigious for me?

i wont bore you all with my stats and all that superficial jazz...but i have a temporary list of colleges im looking at. could you recommend some reach schools that are somewhat prestigious as well?

wellesley college
u of chicago
u of illinois-chicago and urbana champaign are my safeties
northwestern
boston u (is it true their acceptance rate has dropped down to about 30%??? last time i checked it was around 50%)
nyu
columbia
barnard

im looking for urban settings...and good pre-med, pre-law, and international relations programs

thanks for ur help

Wellesley isn't urban - suburban at best, and around the college there isn't much there, there. Buses into Boston, of course.

yea i know that its not urban, i went there htis summmer. im sorry, but it really bothers me when people post things that dont even answer the questions that i asked in my posts. dont waste ur time. dont u think that i would know this?

"im looking for urban settings...and good pre-med, pre-law, and international relations programs"

Mini was just trying to help, you asked that question yourself. And yes, I know i just posted something that didn't answer the question.

I suspect you won't get much help here if you remain so prickly. Apologize and start over.

First, I think "prestige" is a dumb way to look for colleges and second, of your list, Wellesley, Chicago, Northwestern, Columbia, and Barnard can said to be prestigious.
For IR, I'd add Tufts.

Since I now don't know what you consider to be urban, may I suggest Williams and Bard?

Good heavens Mini, I think 20 minutes from downtown Boston qualifies as being in a metro area anyway. Your two suggestions could hardly be any more isolated. Are you being sarcastic?

Georgetown!! Also, Brown (awesome school) and Penn

Tufts is a good addition esp for IR, but other two areas as well. GW good in these areas as well.

Obviously sarcasm on Mini's part. OP was a tad rude and snippy and I didn't see an apology.

Will someone just answer the quesrion? Yes, these schools are too prestigeous for you if you plan to approach them with an attitude. There are too many qualified students without the attitude for them to settle.

jeparlefrancais seems like a snotty prestige whore. Don't pick colleges by prestige, pick by fit and when necessary, value. Also, people as rude as you make me physically ill.

TheKev--as I'm 99.8 percent sure that you're who I think you are from the old board--I find your post amusing for various reasons. But then I have a long memory.

I would suggest Rice, in Houston...but Rice is not really a place where people care much about prestige.

Can't we all just get along? Gosh, no reason to get your panties in a wad, jeparlefrancais.

I really recommend GWU, it has a really good International Affairs program in a school called the Elliot School. Here's a link to it if you are interested: http://www.gwu.edu/~elliott/

I just got accepted there, and I can't wait. It's really urban, and there's so much to do and lots of internship opportunities.

Also, Boston College sounds good, along with Johns Hopkins and Georgetown. Good luck! Et je parle francais, aussi!

yikes! the things ppl say when theyre slightly offended! and the things ppl say when they know no one will ever know who they are! what was it? snotty prestige whore? ok...call me what u want, but perhaps u dont realize what my parents are like. my dad yelled at me because i was looking at some small liberal arts college (macalester) that he's never heard of.

yikes u guys. i wonder what ur like in real life if u get offended this easily.

Je suis lyceen. Je parle francis aussi. Ce est mon deuxieme ans. Ca va tout le monde.

A bientot

TheDAD: I've had the same name on the old forum as I do on the new forum. Sorry for calling you a prestige whore jeparlefrancais

People responded to the way you answered to the first reply. You sounded very rude and this is a board created to help people.
