this might seem like a trivial question, but i don't know the answer.

should i put "homecoming king" on my application or not?

should i put "homecoming king" on my application or not?

If you have room, why not. This is the one award voted on by all the groups in your grade. It shows your ability to get along with a variety of people, not just one group of friends.

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL thats like reassuring them that you're cool and not horribly scary looking [i think colleges like that after all most kids applying are crazy smart.. but are they nice looking???] its like an equivilant to sending a picture of yourself to the colleges.

cowabungaa

include it- just don't write an essay about how being crowned was the best thing to ever happen to you! :)

to be truthful i don't think they would thikn anything of it except that you are just trying to fill some space

nah i think it definately shows that ur well rounded, its pretty slick

I'd include it. It's positive, something to be proud of. It will make your application stand out. And your screen name shows you don't take yourself too seriously.

I would NOT include it. It will make you look like an idiot.

It wouldn't make you look like an idiot. It would shed light on your personality and all that good stuff. It shows that you're a very likeable person. I'd say go for it.

bongoboy, I think your statement makes you sound like an idiot.

I would definitely include it!

I don't know about you guys but I personally think about the academically mediocre jock (or popular kid who thinks he is cool) when I hear homecoming king. I guess it's prejudice, but it's what I associate with it regardless.

I think in deciding whether or not to put it we have to look at it from the admissions officer's perspective more than our own perspective. Not to generalize but I'm thinking the chances are the adcom will more likely have the stereotype thinking, even though it's not necessarily true, of what theslowclap said. When it's a toss up between two candidates can you imagine the adcom saying to each other, "we'll pick the homecoming king, definitely the homecoming king"?

If homecoming king implies all the social talents and all roundedness that others mentioned, then that part of you shouldcome through in other parts of the application.

So, long story short-- I wouldn't put it if I were you.

Are you kidding?!?!? DEFINITELY PUT IT!!! It's the smart kid that gets along with everyone that will get far in life. If you are smart and well-liked and well-rounded that is a great package right there. No doubt in my mind, PUT IT! It's just like how being an athlete on a team predicts you being able to achieve a lot in groups and be a leader. Similarly if you are liked enough to be homecoming king that means that you are personable and NOT pretentious (noone would vote for the pretentious kid as prom king)!

Chum bucket, that you're popular enough to receive that honor should be considered an asset. Even if your title were to suggest, as a couple of people above have said, that you're a mediocre jock, your other stats should indicate otherwise (assuming that you don't really fit that stereotype). If the well-roundedness and likeableness that homecoming king implies are consistent with other parts of your application, then it would only strengthen your image.
