Took AMC12B Today

Does anyone know when AMC12B scores come back?

In like two weeks or so I think?

OMG. I took it without sleeping last night, and I guess I decided not to read the questions before answering the question... I'm expecting to score around 20 points lower than last year, out of pure stupidity and not paying attention. :(

I think I barely made it...as in like a 105.

Your teacher should have the answers.

Our whole school pretty much got raped on that test. I got a 112.5, the best score was a 114. Last year me and the guy with the highest score got 134.5 and 139, respectively. (Granted, last year we both took the AMC10, and this year we took the AMC12...which might have made a difference, but I've heard the tests are supposed to be very similar...I think this year was just really hard.)

It was pretty funny because all the good students at my school got around the same score...probably because the first 15 problems were really easy, and the rest were really hard. It really came down to caution.

100.5 baby! Right on the money.

The scoring was different, which made it MUCH harder.

Think I only got in the 110s.

they changed the scoring because too many people were advancing.

how is the scoring different?

Um, they actually changed the scoring because they wanted to encourage people to answer more questions, and not just qualify by answering 11 questions right.

But you guys probably shouldn't discuss anything until Thursday.

you huys make me feel dumb lol...i took the AMC 10B and i dont think i did tht good....basically because i was stupid...

Aaagh, the cutoff for the AMC12A test ended up being 97.5 with the altered scoring, and I got a 96. Yeah, I suck at math. Insert kvetching here.

In your schools is there an option to take it or not? In my school it's mandatory of all students so none of us care about very much.

I took the AMC 12B test today too...I'm hoping the cutoff is below 100 for this one too. I realized I made a really stupid addition mistake, and I'm hoping it doesn't cost me a chance at the AIME.

Oh, in my school, they choose the best 30 or so math students in the school and it's almost an honor to be chosen to take it. About half of the students who take it don't really care, but the other half do. Last year about half the students who took it made AIME, but with this new scoring system.. I don't like it.

At my school it's pretty much open to everybody, so you have those who care, those who don't care and don't take it, and those who don't care but take it to get out of another class.

Not to be a downer, but please refrain from discussion until around noon tomorrow (That includes discussion of difficulty and whatnot). And if anyone's interested, www.artofproblemsolving.com is going to have a chat room to discuss the test tomorrow (or maybe Friday, i dunno). but yeah, the AMC doesn't want us discussing it too soon.

At my school it is mandatory...we also do very poorly with the highest score being ~82. We are very small mind you, but still its a little disgraceful! :

I don't see that there's really much problem with how we are discussing it now. We're not discussing any specific problems, just our feelings overall. Assuming that the A version is not much different (in difficulty, not questions) from the B version, various forumns already have discussions of the A version, so people knew that this year's seemed harder than last's. We have also talked more about how our school administers it than the test itself. Also, who's taking it now?? (The Asia kids should've taken it yesterday around this time... )

You're right, probably no one is taking it now, but I think it's always been the AMC's policy not to allow online discussion until the following day noon or something. The AoPS website has locked its AMC forum, so I think it's prudent to refrain from discussion just a bit longer. As for the current discussion, I know that if I knew that this test was harder before I took it, I'd pace myself differently. In any case, I'm just putting this out before someone starts specific discussion. Sorry if it seems like I'm being an ass about this...I feel really bad about posting.

It's okay. I didn't mean to sound as rude as I came off, I was just a bit skeptical, because I had read threads about the A exam before I took the B exam, and it might have actually harmed me rather than help me, but yeah :) Sorry.
