Is no one reading what I wrote? You cannot base the decision to kill him on the depravity of his crime. Capital punishment is to ensure that he doesn't do more harm.

oh please spare me with that liberal garbage.

hey i'm liberal you fag!

dcfa, at least it's constitutional....

Besides, aren't conservatives more for a closer reading of the Constitution?

@ zogoto

Most people would support his execution because they believe he is an evil man. You are 100% right in saying that this is not the premise we execute people on, but I'm just telling you why the death penalty is considered acceptable by many.

Yeah, so I think that constitutionally, he has the right to live, and so it is the Governator (not just one of the "many poeple who would support his execution because they believe he is an evil man") who has to step in.

He should die. End of story. Lets not forget he did KILL four people and found one of the most destructive gangs ever to plague this country. I do believe that he has reformed and become a better man and all that crap, but in the end, you have to face the consequences. That's all there is to it, plain and simple.

Think about it like this: if he were retried right now, would he get the death penalty? No probably not.

WHAT?! If he were retired and convicted of murder 4 times, he would still get the death penalty.

Not if he was all remorseful and reformed like he is now.

Yes he would. If there were an investigation and he was convicted, he would probably be sentenced to death, kinda like those old nazi war criminals. I'm not saying that he is like them, I'm just saying that those old nazi war criminals were "old" and "remorseful" too.

he killed people. He should die. end of story.

That's not the point. If he's a reformed man, you promote senseless killing, packerfan22.

Clemency doesn't really pertain to the murder itself. IF granted clemency, Tookie would serve a life sentence without parole. In California, the death penalty is reserved for only the most egregious of murders, and for those defendants who demonstrate absolutely no redeeming values or qualities. In this case, Tookie has done a remarkable job salvaging his life. He spends his days mentoring young at risk kids, and is working on a curriculum with the NAACP to educate young inner city black kids about gang violence. My argument is that Tookie better serves America, and the state of California, doing his work behind bars, than in a coffin.

Fry the scumbag.

"Oh he is a reform man, oh he's a changed man."

A killer writes a few childrens books about OMG GANG VIOLENCE IS BAD OK GUYZ? and all of a sudden he's a changed man and we should look pass all the wrongs he has commited. As far as I know, he has never said he was sorry for anything he has done and still denies the truth. Tookie has famous quotes like "I'm going to kill all the white people" (Wikipedia).

If it was up to me, Tookie and everyone else in prison would be in labor concentration camps, and I would earn off that capital, and not waste paying 40,000 a year to keep it in a 5 star prison.

The blacks were supposedly going to riot if Ahnold didn't spare him, but that didn't happen, but I don't think enough people know the case to really care or riot.

I think he should just live his life out behind bars.....as said before he would do better behind bars than dead. He may have killed four people but he would serve us much better by have a life sentence without parole

Unforunately, he was executed last night

One thing I dont understand.. is why someone like Charles Manson is not on death row (I'm against capital punishment, but I dont understand how they justify who should be executed) Although If i recall correctly I think he was granted clemency back in '72... I guess they cant overturn it..

Eh I take back what i said.....I said something without knowing all the facts about him and his prison record (how he acted all that)

Mansin wasn't granted clemency. He was convicted during the moratorium on capitol punishment throughout the US.
