but trust me, every single Texan knows, respects, and treats like Gods Rice and UT Plan II grads.

Kinda laughed when I read that. One of my best friends from high school is in the Engineering Honors program at UT and when I asked him why he wasn't in Plan II, he told me it was because he didn't know about the program until he moved into one of the Honors Dorms and that he wishes he had known about it earlier.

Most people in Texas, unless they're especially familiar with UT and/or their graduates, have never heard of Plan II.

The UCs also have a common app, so a lot of under-qualified students that normally wouldn't bother filling out a separate application/paying an extra application for an extra reach just have to check off a box.

Also, while the schools' departments are generally pretty close, there's a lot more fields where Michigan is far ahead than there are where UCLA is far ahead.

The acceptance rate is the only reason why I can see that UCLA would be ranked ahead of Michigan. The common application that California allows should be taken into account when figuring out the overall quality of the university. That USNWR uses this data is another reason why I don't have more respect for their ranking system. I have seen the rankings of departments for Michigan compared to many other schools, and invariably their ratings are amongst the highest in academia in many disciplines. It's obscene that U-M gets penalized by unfair comparisons such as acceptance rates when they don't operate on a level playing field. By the way, Michigan's acceptance rate this past year was at 42%. It has been dropping steadily over the past three years.

"Not that it matters, but 25 PERCENT of students or MORE at Harvard and Yale have a 2380 or above on their SATS"

Yeah, I know that. The point I was making is that you can't just automatically think that all Harv+Yale people are that impressive, because 25 PERCENT of students at Harvard and Yale have below 2100 sats, which honestly is not very impressive.

Seriously, every time someone goes "wow, he goes to Harvard or Yale," 25 percent of the time that person has below a 2100 sat, which isn't that impressive.

People need to stop automatically revering people that go the Ivies because the Ivies admit plenty of atudents who are subpar academically.

well to be official about this, Davidson is the "harvard of the south" but Chicago is better than Vandy, not to discredit vandy, its a great place, but not the most prestigious
