Where does name prestige place in this ranking? At least I have heard of Wisconsin and Michigan. Wisconsin is a powerhouse research school (conducted approximately $800 million in research FY07) and Michigan is renown for its top 10 graduate programs. UChicago is associated with a 83 Nobel Prize winners and Northwestern has Kellogg, top notch journalism program, and good economics and chemistry. :-P

WUSTL > Northwestern and Chicago? I’ve heard of Chicago, UMichigan, and Wisconsin by word of mouth way before I knew what was WashU and Northwestern.

Darn it that one person lied to me. I said that MIT was engineers all along and then he said that MIT was beavers. He probably got confused with CIT.

Macalester, Grinnell, and Berkeley are misspelled.

My own ranked list below, as you asked. I didn’t include women’s colleges, because they exclude half the population, and tried to keep personal bias out of it. I disregarded name prestige to what extent that is possible.

^ I understand the Swat and Rice comments–although Rice is more because I don’t know enough about it than because of intentional change–but do you think Harvard is too low or too high? Just curious.
