Top 5% of your class and you're in???

I found this gem of a statement in last year's UF CDS:

"Note: Florida public high school students graduating in the top 5% and completing the college preparatory curriculum are
guaranteed admission to UF."

<a href="http://www.ir.ufl.edu/data/cds2006-07.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.ir.ufl.edu/data/cds2006-07.pdf</a></p>

I guess it takes out a lot of the guesswork if you're top 5%.

When I was applying last year I called UF and they told me they were surprised that statement was still included in the CDS, because it was no longer true due to the number of applicants they had... but that being in the top 5% "certainly helps".

As someone who went through the process, no one outside the top 5% of my high school was accepted.

Although I do find it a definite assurance if you're in the top 5%, I know kids in my school in the top 5% who did not get in, and likewise kids were in the top 10% or top 20% who did get in. So you never know...but I think if you're in the top 5% with decent SAT/ACT and some ECs, your shot in getting in is good

I wouldn't depend on it... I've heard of many qualified applicants (with high GPA and SATs) that were rejected for admission

^ Glad they quit this program. It's not fair to the best & brightest in the state. The state of Texas does top-10% and it really is holding back University of Texas and Texas A&M.

Not necessarily but you do have a very good chance. I can't think of anyone from my school in the top 5% who got rejected but I do know of people from 6-10% that did.
