I'm super confused. I know that in the past years, in most public Universities in Tx, the top 10% were admitted automatically.
However, in my counselors office at school, they put up a new poster stating that the Top 8% of students are automatically admitted.
But this girl on facebook(still in hs) was bragging about her SAT scores and was like "top 10% automatically get admitted" and saying she'd be admitted next year when she applies because she's top 10% and got good SAT scores... So I guess now I'm confused.
So did they change it?

I'm not in the top 8% or 10% lol, but I'm curious

Hang tight. You are about to be more confused. The top 10% rule in Texas states that students graduating in the Top 10% of their class is auto admitted to any public University in Texas. The University of Texas at Ausitn, and only the University of Texas at Austin, asked the Texas Legislature to allow them to auto-admit a lower percentage because the top 10% was filling almost 90% of its entire class and they were not able to go outside the state for talent. The legislature came to the agreement the University of Texas at Austin would have to auto admit enough Texas freshman up to 75% of the entering class. The University of Texas at Austin has to notify the Legislature and the Public High Schools in Texas what they project that auto admit percentage will be. Last year it was the top 8%. For the High School graduating class of 2012 that will be the top 9% percent. So this percentage will always change (but could stay the same) and is only applicable to UT-Austin.
