What do you think are the top CA Liberal Arts Colleges, in order?

off the top of my head
Pomona-Harvey Mudd
Occidental-Claremont
Pitzer-Scripps-Mills-Whittier
some Ca universities are also pretty small and could be considered along with LACs

This could be a very interesting thread to get some east coast views. I am very ignorant about west coast schools (even tho I lived in Oakland for a few years) and I can't even name 5 LACs in CA!! Harvey Mudd, Pomona... ummm isn't there another 1 or 2 right nearby? see?

Pomona
Claremont
Cal Tech
Scripps
Harvey Mudd
Occidental
Pitzer

Redlands
U Santa Clara
U San Diego
U of Pacific
Mills
Whittier
Chapman
Pepperdine
Loyola Marymount
St Mary's

SB Mom, is that your order? We are wondering about Oxy, Mills, Fresno Pacific---if D doesn't get into Pomona! But we know little about any but Pomona.

I feel more confident about the order in the top list... the lower list are schools that fairly close to one another and I did not 'rank.'

If Pomona is probably a reach, matchier schools I would suggest your D look at are Scripps, Oxy, & Redlands. If Catholic schools are okay with her, look at Santa Clara & USD too. U of Pacific or Chapman would be safer schools for a kid who has a reasonable shot at Pomona.

Cal Tech

What makes this place, and other universities, LACs? What is an LAC, if Cal Tech is one?

I second a recommendation for Occidental, Scripps, and Redlands, and think Pitzer should be added to the mix, and maybe Mills. Look into all of them, though. one might be perfect for you.

This is pretty hard, especially when oyu mix in the small universities lik UofSF and Pepperdine:

Pomona
Claremont McKenna
Harvey Mudd
Scripps
Occidental
Pepperdine
U of Santa Clara
U of San Francisco
Pitizer

Mills

U of Redlands
U of San Diego
U of Pacific
Chapman
Loyola Marymount

APU

Westmont
Whittier
Biola
St. Marys
La Verne
Concordia

Not wishing to be a stinker...but if you are looking for a University of Santa Clara you won't find one. It's Santa Clara University.

I put Cal Tech because it is an excellent school, sometimes overlooked, and it has the intimacy associated with a LAC.

Cre8tive, I do not agree that USF & Pepperdine are in the top tier.

everyone here has missed out so far on

St. Thomas Aquinas, an up and coming LAC in California, this is a very religious Catholic college, don't go there if crossdressing is your thing.

Pomona is certainly tops. Harvey Mudd as well. Claremont-McKenna is well-known as a heavy hitter in particular areas, including economics and political science.

Occidental is coming up fast. Students seem to really like it there, and it is getting increasingly selective.

THIS LIST IS HORRIBLE

First of all ... many of these school's aren't even regional. Pepperdine is ranked 55 NATIONALLY. To call it a small regional school is idiotic.

Also, Biola University is a NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, 4th tier, which automatically places it above all of the regional universities.

By far, the worst college on the list is whittier college. Also, You left out several better schools like Westmont and Point Loma Nazarene and basically all of the Cal State Schools in southern California.
