so i have been looking up a lot about law school and such, and i had a question about rankings. So say if i got into a law school that is 100th in rankings, and i end up in the top 10% of the class, would that look better to employers than if i was middle of the class at a school that was ranked 20th? thank you

I wouldn’t presume that you will place higher in the class at a lower ranked law school than at a higher ranked law school. Things don’t always shake out that way.

You’re much better off being middle or even bottom of the pack at a top law school, than top of a mediocre law school class. I once was top of the class at a mediocre law school, hired by a big firm who also hired grads from the bottom of top schools – with all of us paid the same. The mantra was you had to be in the top 10 people (not %) at my alma mater, and just barely graduate if you were at a T-14. Top employers often do not even interview at or look at resumes from mediocre schools, so you won’t get your foot in the door from there.

interesting, thank you. and i totally agree sallyawp, a lot of these people assume that lower ranked schools are filled with people who arent smart, or dont work hard, which is completely wrong.
