Hello! I am a California high school student, junior. I am very passionate about becoming a nurse, RN, and more specifically, a NICU nurse. I want to stay in-state, and have mostly narrowed it down to all the CSU's, although they are all impacted.

Can you please rank them for me, and preferably explain how you decided, from best to worst?

Also, are any of them research universities, which i assume means lower quality eduaction?

Thank you soo much, you don't know how much it means to me that you read this.

However, since you mentioned on another thread that you’re low income, so also apply to some UCs…they have more aid to give. Try a variety of UCs that have BSN.

I have heard very good things about SJSU nursing program. I actually have a friend that graduated from SJSU nursing and went onto work at a infant ICU hospital department. She really loved the program at San Jose and is working very successfully as an ICU RN.

UCLA Band Mom,
I don’t think we are on the same page.

I am planning to receive a BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing), but as I understand it, you have to apply to a school as Pre-Nursing, take the Pre-Req classes, apply again to their nursing program at the end of ur sophomore year, then go from there. This is how it is for most schools, unless it is a direct admit, like UCLA. So either way, you have to declare yourself pre-nursing.

I’m on the page with bandmom. Unfortunately I don’t think you’re going to get as many responses as you should because your makes it sound to many glancing thru the tiles of posts like you want to get some degree that will then enable you to apply to nursing school after your bachelors. I understand that technically you apply to pre-nursing and then get accepted into the actual nursing program, but this is true of many other impacted programs.

In any event, I suggest you talk to some nurses at hospitals in your community to find out what they think. There’s nothing stopping you from setting up a meeting for coffee with a few charge nurses after explaining you want to get their advice on entering the profession, explaining you’re a HS student. Most people are flattered and happy to talk to HS students considering their field.

Except for the limited number of direct admit nursing programs, many colleges require you to apply as Pre-nursing because those schools don’t let you into nursing until junior year…even the schools that aren’t impacted.

The sentence should have been “Unfortunately I don’t think you’re going to get as many responses as you should because your title makes it sound to many glancing thru the titles of posts like you want to get some degree that will then enable you to apply to nursing school after your bachelors.”
