top premed schools in texas

okay okay i know there arent many good schools in texas but what are some texas schools with some decent premed programs?

Baylor and UT Southwest Center are two excellent Medical schools in Texas, and Baylor has a 7 year undergrad/medical school program in conjunction with Rice university.

but rice doesnt have a med school.

rice undergrad, baylor med school is the 7 year program.

I know a lot of people that turned down great schools elsewhere to go to Baylor for pre-med. It's very good...but that's a/b all Baylor's got. ;)

waco, texas sucks though.

Is the 7 year program really hard to get into?

i know ut-austin doesnt have a good program. austin college is decent. lol what about utd's premed program??

"hard to get into" is an unserstatement. start working on your cancer cure immediately.

waco does suck i know a guy there that said for fun they'd drive around in some sort of circle driveway area so that people couldn't get on the loop. HAHA but talk about bored.

yeah waco does seem pretty boring. and especially with the heat around here in texas....but anyways. what about some other schools in texas?

Baylor College of Medicine is not in Waco, Texas. It's right here in Houston. You're confusing it with Baylor University, which is indeed in Waco. Baylor Uni has no affiliation with Baylor College of Medicine. It used to be Baylor University of Medicine and had affiliation with Baylor Uni; however, in 1969, the College separated to become an independent institution - so now its name is Baylor College of Medicine.

haha thats all fine and good but..
...other texas schools with good pre-med programs??

Here is more information on an early acceptance program as a junior for Texas Tech's Medical School. This is "cut and pasted" from Texas Tech's (TTU) honors college website:

"What about early acceptance to the TTU Medical School?

The joint TTU-TTUHSC Early Acceptance Program offers an exciting opportunity to select Honors College students by allowing them to waive the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) and to apply early to the TTUHSC’s School of Medicine (SOM), typically in the junior year. Successful Early Acceptance applicants are notified of their acceptance to the SOM in late January and complete their baccalaureate degrees prior to admission to the SOM.

Partial criteria for this program include official enrollment in the Honors College, entrance to TTU as a freshman, residency in the state of Texas, and a composite score of at least 1300 on the SAT or at least 29 on the ACT upon matriculation at Texas Tech University (the composite score must be earned in one test administration). For full criteria, please see our website."

A pretty good deal.

Yea to clarify,

Rice has a program with Baylor College of Medicine (a top 15 med school). It is very very difficult to get into, but probably the best program in texas. Other programs to look into are at UT and maybe Tech.

wow thanks I never knew that a/b Baylor...so Baylor University basically has nothing. lol

i heard austin has a very low acceptance rate into med school?

I’ve heard that UT Dallas is a pretty good school for pre med as well
