What do ya’ll know about this dinner? DS received an invitation today. Is this simply a recruiting tool for USC? Will it make a difference if he does or does not go? Does getting an invitation mean they think he has an good shot at the honor college and if so based on what? He has not applied yet. Anyone else out there been to one of these dinners? Should we go?
@PeachMom3 My son did not receive this invite , but received similar invites. Did he identify interest in the SAT or ACT? If he’s interested , I would go. My son attended a breakfast similar to this and is now attending their Honors College. Is it something that is convenient for you and he to attend?
Absolutely, it is a recruitment tool. They want to provide you with information and get you excited about their program. USC does an excellent job in this regard, better than any other school we were recruited by. I believe it is a good way to get information about the school, so I think it is not a bad idea to go. I don’t think it makes any difference in their consideration whether you are accepted, but I don’t believe you would have been invited if they didn’t think you had a shot at getting in.
It’s a recruiting tool, and invites are sent out mostly to National Merit Semi-finalists or those who have expressed interests.
Hey just curious - anyone out there that has attended one of these dinners - what is the appropriate dress code? Is a suit too much or would blazer with tie be better? Or even polo with khakis?
We attended an event for accepted students. We saw people in dresses and suits down to jeans and nice shorts (no tshirts). Most were in between. I’d dress nicely, a step down from business casual, but it is mainly for your comfort as some people do dress up. It was fairly relaxed and enjoyable.
