My daughter was invited to a Top Scholars event. Is this worth the time (six hour drive one-way, day off school/work) to attend? She is OOS and will need substantial aid to attend UofO (Husband out of a job for most of the last 2 years). Are we spitting into the wind trying to make this happen?? Thanks!

SeniorMom, I think you should call admissions and ask them if coming the Top Scholars event would be beneficial in terms of any aid she might be considered for. If they say it makes no difference, then you could wait until you see an aid package. If it’s good enough to make attending possible/desirable, then you could make the trip for a visit.

If they say attending is useful and meaningful in the awarding of scholarship funds… then, yeah, maybe worth the trip.

I was just there today (we live about 3 hours away, so don’t go often) to vist my daughter. It was, as always, really great. She’s in the honors college there, which is a terrific program. I really like UO a lot.

FYI fo ranyone reading this. I called the FA office. They said attendance has no bearing on potintial scholarship awards. So…we will stay home…the life of a HS senior if far too busy!
