My ds received a letter today that he was accepted into the Honor's College. He's already received the Summit scholarship ($8,000 a yr). We are out of state (East coast) and I just don't see how we can afford to send my son to UO unless we can make it close to in-state tuition. Is there any additional money ever offered to the Honor's College students? I'm a UO alum and would love for him to attend - but it seems like most of the really good scholarships are only for in-state students.

My daughter graduated from the honors college last June. After her first year she received scholarships from the honors college that covered most or all of the additional honors college fees (above regular UO tuition). I don’t know if the honors college scholarships were need or merit-based. (She had very high grades, but also had unmet need and qualified for a partial Pell grant – so not sure what the scholarships were based on.)

That was a big help for us but wouldn’t, by itself, bring out-of-state costs down so they were near to in-state rates. (We’re in-state.)

Thanks - that’s helpful. We’ll just have to see how this plays out.

Good luck. College admissions is an exciting and stressful time! Yikes. By the way, my daughter really enjoyed the honors college at UO and had some great experiences and opportunities. Attending there ended up being an excellent choice on her part.

That’s great to hear good feedback on the Honor’s College. I’d love to get him out there to visit sometime - we’re waiting to see though if it’s a possibility financially and some of his other options. I graduated from UO over 20 years ago - but loved every minute of it. DS has decided that if we can’t afford the out-of-state tuition at this point, he’d love to go there for graduate school - as they have a great program for what he wants to study.
