From a student’s perspective what are the best and worst things about Brandeis?

Best: Academics, people, ease of getting involved with so many things, easy transportation to and from Boston.

Worst: Dining Services, and since you’re in a suburb it’s hard to get food after 2 AM. It gets pretty cold during the winter, but the Spring and Fall are pretty nice.

so is the food… not great? or bad?

It’s more dependent on the individual than anything else. There are a good amount of options, and since the campus is the size it is, you can go to any dining area with ease. There are two main dining halls, one is Sherman which is all you can eat. The other is Usdan which is a la carte. Usdan is much bigger (and tastes better). There’s an upper section and a lower section to Usdan each having different stations. On campus, there’s also a Quiznos, an Einstein’s Bro’s Bagels, along with two C-Stores which carry all different things from refrigerated, and frozen goods, to baked goods, to milk and cereal (it’s a mini grocery basically) . In addition, there’s the Stein (which is open for dinner and is sort of pub-like). Also Thursday, Friday, and Saturday where the Stein is, it becomes Ollies, which is open from 10 P.M. to 3 A.M. and serves diner-style food. The food isn’t bad it’s just not that great, and if you’re well informed about different options here you won’t really get that sick of it.

Also there’s a large grocery store (within walking distance, and Brandeis does a free van, constantly, back and forth) called Hannafords.
