Tough Decision: American or Middlebury?

Hi everyone.

I have already enrolled at American in Honors, but Middlebury just accepted me off of their waiting list. I really can’t decided. Although they are very different, both have merits and drawbacks.

American is in DC, I got a good amount of merit aid, and has a renowned ISS school, which is what I MAY want to do (undecided). There are also so many internships and job connections.

Middlebury is a top 5 liberal arts school, with the college-y college feel and close knit community. They do also have international studies majors and are renowned for language and study abroad. However, Vermont is much farther away and very isolated in terms of its location (the school obviously has activities for students to do).

Anyway, I could truly see myself in both places. This decision is so tough! Anyone with info on both school or comments, please share.

Have you visited both? They have very different atmospheres, with different student populations. Visit!

I had one d. attend Smith (where the language opportunities, and percentage of language/area studies majors is about the same as Middlebury), and one at American. And I’d put it like this: if you are pretty sure you either want to major in OR want a career related to international service, or would like to explore those possbilities through in-term internships, go to American. If you’d be happier in a traditional (though very rural) college community with very fine general academics, go to Middlebury.

This is one you have to figure out for yourself.
