I'm going on a pre-med track. Where do you think is best for me to study? why? Which school offers more opportunities as an undergrad and after undergrad? I am aiming for medical schools on the west coast. Which school do you think will best help me get there provided that I do equally well in both schools. Thanks for your input everyone!

I would pick Columbia over WashU...it has a better rep and it's located in NYC. unfortunately, columbia didn't give me that option.

If you asked me before I got in to schools, I would probably say Columbia, but after visiting both and investigating the pre-med track at each, I would go with WashU. But you REALLY cannot go wrong with either. Just keep in mind that WashU requires one class for all its students, whereas at Columbia all students in Columbia College must adhere to the CORE program. I wasn't too happy with that restriction, and the swimming test thing (lol). Congrats and Good Luck!

I would go with Columbia...ivy league and it's in NYC.

Hey thanks guys for your honest opinions. It's hard for me to decide because I know washu's campus because i lived in st. louis before. Now I live ten minutes away from columbia. Thanks for the grats and I'm sure all of you guys got into terrific schools.

Wash U is really good for pre-med and like someone else said, is very flexible with requirements so you can take all sorts of electives if you want. Columbia is also a great school so you can't really go wrong with either. WashU likely has a more 'university' and 'campus-life' feel since it's not in the middle of the city.

Columbia has a pretty nice feel though. It's a FULL college campus, but located within a city-in a way like Rice.

I don't think Houston and NYC are comparable, but Columbia does have a closed campus feel, its just very active all the time. I feel WashU's campus is a bit more relaxing (They have hammocks spread randomly about the South 40...lol)

Columbia may have a campus in the city, but don't be fooled: the city distracts most people and there really isn't as much on-campus activity as one would think.

Columbia is more presitigious but I would choose Washu
Columbia is a very structured school with a lot of requirements
i would choose columbia if i was leaning towards majoring in law or english
and if you aren't a great writer, Columbia will definately be hard

Washu's cirriculum fits me well. However, the bottom line is Columbia is an ivy and its reputation is there. That is not to say that WashU doesn't have one. It isn't necessarily true that you have to be a great writer, especially since I'm in the engineering school. Plus, there are plenty of people going into medicine, the sciences, and especially business/economics, not just law or english. I do like both campuses, but WashU's has a slight edge over Columbia for me. But, in accordance to the advice many people have given me, I think I will be choosing Columbia.
