is there any who's family makes around 100k or less and still thinks its worth it to pay 50 k for a duke education? if so. why?

the reality is if he seems like the type who would enjoy a big state school (and his post implied he certainly doesn't mind) he'll be equally happy wherever he goes, which imo means he should just take the money and go to clemson. people on cc really overrate the value of "fit"-obviously someone applying to washington and lee won't like hampshire college, but most cases aren't nearly that extreme

wow, well... clemson is by no means vandy... i wish i had a full ride there... i guess it is a question that no one can answer for you... i'm staying with a friend at duke pretty soon so i guess i'll decide after that... i think that i might regret going to clemson in the long run even though i would love it initially... then again, i can't be sure of that either...

Daniel, Clemson is a very strong school with a beautiful campus and motivated kids. Having huge debt will effect your decisions later. Very few get any help w/med school. Don't limit yourself by accruing debt. If you succeed at Clemson, you can go to any grad school. Be flattered -- Clemson has many strengths.

If you family could afford it, GO TO DUKE. You will never have to think "what if I had gone there" from here on. This 4 years of college life is very important in your whole life.

Our DD got into Duke too and our bill will be about $31K a year. We would definitely pay that even if it means we have to cut a lot of other expenses.

Daniel, I agree with Dad II. If your parents have told you that they will pay the Duke tuition, and you're not going to go into debt by going there, by all means GO TO DUKE. You've worked too hard to earn a spot at Duke to now instead settle for a lesser school. You're likely to spend the rest of your life catching Duke basketball games on TV and thinking: "Wow! I could have gone there!"

Clemson is a good school, not a great one. Duke is one of the great universities of the world.
