Tour

Hey everybody. I'm a high school junior doing one of those guided tour dealios at Wake in a few weeks. I haven't yet been to the school, so this is basically my first interaction with it besides looking at US News rankings. I was just wondering what other people's tour experiences have been like, how they influenced their perception of the school, etc. Any and all input appreciated. Thanks.

I never did a formal tour of the school led by a student. A couple of weeks ago I had an interview there and walked around afterwards. I was very impressed. The grounds seem very nice and several students stopped to chat with my dad and I.

Enjoy and good luck with the process!

We did my son’s tour on a June day. The tour group was very large. In spite of this, the guide was able to keep us moving and engaged.

I don’t recall seeing inside a dorm on the tour. So you might want to be prepared to miss that.

Are you doing an info session? If so, it might be rather long. Son toured 17 schools (applied to 9). Wake’s info session was the longest of all. And it felt a little scripted, too. But still worthwhile.

Enjoy!

Did info session (not that long - do if you’re interested) then tour. It was a good tour - our guide took us into a dorm. We ate lunch on campus afterwards. Have fun!

I also was not able to see a dorm room on the tour. What I did was just walk up to a student near South and Collins and tell them I was a prospective student and asked if I could see a room. They were more than happy to let me in and show me their room as well as answer any questions I had.

I did the info session/tour in november and was very impressed. My dad has always pushed for me to apply to wake, but being from pennsylvania, I didn’t know a thing about it until I visited. Campus was very pretty, weather was beautiful, and I actually did get to see a dorm in South. Pretty basic as far as size goes, but very clean and new. They had this sweet touch screen computer mounted on the wall in the lobby that told you the weather, the current efficiency of the dorm as far as energy output goes, the carbon footprint, and many other interesting little things. Oh and apparently there’s this old rule at wake that every dorm must have a grand piano in the lobby? Haha kinda different but I found it funny :p
