Townhouse community

I got assigned a double in a townhouse for next year(I am going to be a freshman) and am not sure about it. I am a bit worried about the isolation and it would be great if you guys could tell me more about the townhouses. :)

They are awesome. 'Nough said.
If you have a FB, go to the townhouse community group and see what others are saying.
As for isolation, you have three friends with you and your own shower/toilet… Not that co-ed showers would be bad…
Hmm… If you think you’ll be missing out on hallway stuff, well, I am sure that the townhouse community will be close-knit.

You are not going to be isolated. You will of course hang out with many townhouse people, but you will also have friends from Jameson, the low rises, the high rises etc.

agreed. townhouses are awesome.

It might be a little harder at first to meet a lot of people just because you don’t have a floor full of people wandering in and out of your room on the first day, but after that the townhouses are where it’s at. there’s also a ton of athletes in the townhouses.

the downside to basically having your own apartment as a freshman is that it only gets cleaned by maintenance once a month. they also haven’t had wifi in years past but i heard they were getting it next year.

We have Wifi now:
"Community features:

Open to first-year students
300+ residents
Located on North Campus
4-person townhouse apartments, each with two bedrooms, a large living room and kitchen, and a bathroom
A community-center building with a TV/social lounge, study lounge, piano, kitchen, and laundry facilities
Bedrooms contain, for each occupant: an extra-long twin bed, a closet and a bureau (or wardrobe/bureau combination), a desk and desk chair, a desk lamp, and a wastebasket
Wireless Internet access"

Townhouses really are awesome. I didn’t even get along with two of my housemates and still managed to have a fantastic year! While it is very isolating at first (i.e. took me a week to meet my neighbors and that was only because I played frisbee outside). I would highly suggest going to some of the community events in the first few weeks (free food!) or just hanging out outside in your quad if you want to meet more people in the townhouses.
Once you know people, the townhouses are ideal! Our house was a pretty popular hangout spot for most of my friends and we would constantly have people over. It was great having the living room/kitchen/dining room to hang out rather than just a little dorm room. I lived in Townhouse H and did NOT get wi fi…I think A and B might but it’s kinda spotty. My neighbor had a router that we used to get internet but then all the usage got put on his account so he went over the limit each month.
But seriously be excited about the townhouses! They are sooooo nice! While it’s a little tough for frosh, this type of housing would be IDEAL for sophomores and upperclassmen when you already have a group of 4.

I lived in Townhouse C and it was pretty fun. The townhouses are slightly isolated and you will be at a (slight) social disadvantage relative to like Donlon or CKB but it’s not a big deal. This is obviously because the dorms are densely packed and if you don’t like your roommate, then there are still like 30 people within feet of you. People also make less of an effort to get to know neighbors in the townhouses due to their structure so you’re just going to have to be proactive.

As clinegirl said, the townhouses would be awesome for sophomores who’ve already kind of settled in a bit but whatever. They are ridiculously spacious and well-suited for hanging out. The living room was far more spacious than even my collegetown house’s living room senior year, so if one of your roommates has a big flatscreen or something, expect your place to be the hangout spot.

If you’re fortunate to have cool roommates and neighbors like I did, the townhouses are mad fun. By second semester we were playing beer pong and watching movies all the time. Several people threw huge parties frequently
