Toyota community scholarship

Thanks for the info about last year! My daughter is going to Furman. Good luck at Georgetown!

is the rumor that they give you a car if you go true?? i decided not to attend cause i have a lot of stuff happening now with APs, i'm directing a show and i'm pres. of student govt --- but i don't want to be left out of the "goodies!"

Of course we weren't involved in this last year - but if you look at the website it doesn't mention cars - or anyone in the past getting one - plus not all of these kids are 18 and you probably have to be 18 to get a car. AND, the deadline to say you are going is past.

So, now that many of you are back, tell us about the weekend-how was it? Did anyone hear get the $20,000? Give us details!

The weekend was really nice (although I and a lot of other people got in late due to bad weather in chicago messing up a lot of flights). I wasn't a national winner and I don't remember exactly who was, but one of my friends who was there did recieve the 20,000. I felt honored just being chosen among the group of individuals there and the type of activities that they've done. Truly, truly amazing. All in all, it was a great weekend. We got to tour the toyota manufacturing plant and see them put the cars together. I thought that was really fun. Then the dinner was nice. The speaker was great and the hores'd'voires (sp?) were delicious (especially the shrimp wrapped in bacon). Everyone one there was great!

So what kinds of community service things did the $20,000 winners do? I am curious about their depth of involvement.

lol...ill post them if i can remember them, i just remember one dude is having a reality show filmed about his activity or something

Where can I get this scholarship? I looked at their website and I can't find it there. I also sent them an email and I never received any reply back.

It's not something you can just apply for. I don't know if all schools get an application or ones that routinely send in or what. But I think most high schools get ONE application and they choose someone to fill it out and send it in. Check with your school counselor. My daughter was VERY fortunate to have gotten this scholarship - not only is the money great ($10k for most, $20k for some!), but the experience of going to Kentucky and meeting all those absolutely fantastic kids from all over the country who have done such wonderful things - plus the Toyota people themselves are just amazing. My daughter was chosen to come back the next year (2007) and be a student counselor (or whatever they call it) and THAT was also amazing. She still talks about that trip and the whole program. She LOVES it. I hope that your school receives an application and you get to be the one submitted. Good luck!

Thanks so much! Yeah, I talked with my counselor and she said that the application didn't come in yet, though I didn't know that only one person can be nominated. There's so many great and intelligent students in my school, so it makes me doubtful that I'll get nominated. Either way, it sounds amazing! Thanks for the info. :)

Good luck! :-)
