I'm a rising junior with a 3.8 GPA UW at the moment and I'm a track athlete. I'd love to run for a D1 school and have the grades and perhaps some ECs for it. I've received a letter from one D1 school at the end of sophomore year (although I don't think they're allowed to contact me until junior year). How does the athletic recruitment work? These are my times at the end of sophomore year. Any input is appreciated.
200m: 22.3
300m: 35.4
400m: 49.9
600m: 1:24
800m: 1:57.8

I think your 200 and 400 times are consistent with Ivy recruiting standards. May need a little more for Stanford, not sure. Your GPA is solid - a lot will depend on your SATs. Do some research on the Academic Index. Scores in the range of 700 per section will put you on solid ground for HYP.

My SAT is 2150 and ACT is 32 I’ll be spending the summer trying to improve it hopefully.

Any coach will be happy to get an email from you. :)

Would anyone know the process with recruitment? How does it work? Is it better I contact coaches or will they contact me

Generally you contact them. You are a rising Junior? Right now the priority is on the rising seniors so most coaches will probably give you an enthusiastic 'let’s stay in touch". You are in an excellent position. Assuming you ran those times as a Sophomore - there are only about 100 sophomore guys in the country with that kind of 400 time. Out of those, I’d say you could probably count on one hand the guys with SATs better than 2150. So, yes, you’re in the sweet spot for Ivy track.

A brief introductory email now would be fine, be aware that the coach is very limited in his ability to contact you as a rising jr.
