Tracking supplementary material

<p>I am very glad that myMIT offers the possibility to track the status of my application. For example, it allows me to check whether MIT received my teacher recommendations. But what about supplementary material? I had an extra recommendation sent to MIT; is there any way to check whether they received it or not?</p>

<p>Any idea to track supplementary material?
Maybe I should mail the admission officers? What have you done in order to ensure that everything was received?</p>

<p>just wondering</p>

<p>how did you send your extra recommendation? I want to send one from an employer, but I'm not sure if there's something special i have to do. Do I need an extra form? or have them put my ssn at the top of the letter?</p>

<p>On Matt McGann's blog it said that the person writing the recommendation should just make sure to include your name and birth date. No special form is required. Now I would like to make sure that MIT received the extra recommendation.</p>

<p>Ok, I found the exact site, all you need to know is on <a href="http://matt.mitblogs.com/archives/2005/10/supplemental_ma.html%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://matt.mitblogs.com/archives/2005/10/supplemental_ma.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

Extra recommendations. If you feel an extra recommendation would show an important additional side of you not already covered, you may send in an additional letter of recommendation. This in general would not need to be on an MIT recommendation form from the application; a separate sheet of paper is most common. In general, third recommendations from a teachers do not provide much additional insight; the most helpful supplemental recommendations come from people who know you well outside the classroom. Some helpful extra recommendations I've seen have come from research mentors, youth group leaders, coaches, and bosses. If you decide a third recommendation is necessary, have your recommender send this via US Mail to MIT Admissions, and be sure your full name and date of birth are included.

<p>ok thank you</p>

<p>Hehe, but what about my initial question? Is there a way to track extra recommendations?</p>

<p>Just call admissions. From what I seen/read, MIT is more than happy to help you out with stuff like this.</p>

<p>Ben said somewhere on this forum (you might be able to find it if you dig through several pages of threads) that there's no online way to check if extra recs have been received. But you can certainly call.</p>
