I'm not sure, I remember looking at an Amtrac train schedule leaving from Newark to Richmond, it takes like 7 hours. I don't know what the area around the Richmond train station is like. I read that Richmond has some very sketchy sections, areas with high crime rates, so I'd be careful about going down alone, at least the first time. The best thing would be to call the school and find out.

The train comes in to Richmond in the Staples Mill Road Area...It's about 15 minutes from school...I am from Richmond by the way and will be attending next year...So if anybody needs rides around town or a tour guide, I am here!...LOL...But seriously, there is more to do in RIchmond now with 2 brand new malls being built in the last year or so...plus, downtown, Cary Street, and other areas are wonderful and interestingly unique...A must visit if you go to UR is Maymont Park...It is a huge, huge, huge, huge park close to the river with waterfalls and rolling hills and Japanese gardens and tons and tons of room to roam around...It is a great place for a picnic or throwing the football on a Sunday afternoon....Really spectacular place to chill...

By the way, the area around the train station is plenty safe...Richmond (city) gets a bad wrap for having alot of unsafe areas...Not true at all...only in deep downtown (nobody goes there anyway) and some spots out toward east end and north side...It really is a safe place to live, especially the west end (which is close to where school is)...

forgot, they will be building a new stadium down by the river for triple-a baseball team in next few years, so there's another thing that will be a cool place to chill...

Call them and find out. Are you going to the Open House on the 16th or just visiting?

Hey whitwilson- Thanks for clearing up the safety issue. I've visited Richmond a few times, I drove around the city and thought it was really nice and safe. I just happened to read an article that said Richmond had the highest crime rate in Va. I guess it's limited to certain areas, that's good.
