Transcript Details: What about test scores if going test-optional route?

My rising senior took the ACT last fall and did fairly well, but is disappointed with her score and is looking forward to (hopefully) taking it again in June. and July. We are well aware of all of the test optional schools now and perhaps she will go that route in the fall. Here’s the issue: her high school has her ACT score on her transcript and the guidance counselor states, “that’s just the way it prints from the server that we subscribe to for the school.” She has asked for it to be taken off (since one would also send in official test scores if choosing to submit) and they won’t do it. If a student applies to a test optional or test-blind school, isn’t it implicit bias if the score is posted right on the transcript? Does the FERPA act come into play here?
Thank you, I’d love to hear what other school districts are doing.

If she applies to a test-optional/blind school, the school has a moral (and possibly legal) obligation to not consider it. If you do feel like they haven’t honored this after receiving admissions decisions, your daughter can contact admissions officers and see why exactly she was rejected or possibly appeal depending on the school.

My D’s HS was the same. All standardized scores were on the official transcript.

Because of all the TO schools this year I would continue to pressure the school to make a change. I’d talk to the principal next and if you hit a dead end there, reach out to the school board members.

A college can consider anything they want when deciding admissions. They’re allowed to use race for example.

You need to decide if the number is actually harmful. As long as it’s in the middle 50% I wouldn’t worry too much. I would suggest you nicely, remember you want the counselor to like you, reach out to the principal to find away to remove the scores from the transcript so the students can out their best foot forward.
