Do I only report the weighted GPA that shows up in my transcript?
I think it depends on the school you are applying to, but most colleges just want you to use your weighted GPA. I would look and see if the schools you are applying to have a specific policy on which one they want.
If that’s all you have, that’s all you can report. Since there is no common metric for weighting, be aware that a college may recalculate using UW or weight according to their own standards.
If you self report, report what you see. The school will probably take your transcript and school profile and recalculate the way they want to.
My 2 kids have gotten into 4 schools so far and 3 of them have recalculated their gpas. I will say each school seems to have their own system so it’s hard to be sure. (core classes only, honors etc)
My daughter moved schools after her sophomore year. The first school was a top 10 public magnet school with a 0-100 grading system. The second was a German International School with an IB program that has a 0-7 grading system. We never knew what her 4.0 scale GPA was. Colleges admitted her anyway and gave her merit scholarships. The only glitch we had was our State Public U that had an automated system for scholarships based on self-reported data. An email to admissions cleared that up and she was also awared merit.
My point is, don’t worry about it, the colleges figure it out.
My daughter goes to an IB school in PA. They only give weighted GPA. So that’s what she reported
Unless they give you instruction to recalculate GPA, just put in whatever that is shown on your transcript and mark it as w or UW accordingly.
