Do colleges convert your weighted GPA? Because my high school is a very competitive prep school and they only give colleges our weighted GPA, which is the one on our transcript (as my counselors have told me). Will colleges convert that to unweighted or just look at the one on my transcript?

Most colleges look at your transcript closely to see your unweighted grades in particular classes, the rigor of your courses, and where you stand within your class. Even if rank isn’t provided, your counselor gives enough info to provide a clear sense of where you stand in your grade. Most schools don’t formally recalculate a new GPA because that’s a labor intensive process, but some do.

Colleges have their own systems. Do they all bother to convert scores? I couldn’t say. I know the University of California system has a specific system in where they only allow 8 semesters of weighted credit and don’t count freshman year. These are self-reported (though confirmed if you are accepted.) From the info sessions and tours at private colleges, they pretty much just say they have their own system and more interested in the classes you took than the GPA on your transcript.

Our school doesn’t rank us.

Your HS profile will contain some information to allow colleges to at least get an approximate rank.
