Transcript requests

I have gotten the impression that posting a transcript online with the NCAA or a recruiting site is really important, the sooner the better.

Especially worried because he is targeting Ivies among others, and although his test scores are pretty good, they really don't know about GPA and courses until a transcript is sent.

It has been two months since a paper transcript request was sent to my son's school, and a month since a different electronic request (for the NCAA) was submitted. Is that timeline common? Or should I go to the school and find out what the problem is?

I would not worry about sending transcript to NCAA now. Just make sure they send it after the Junior year is completed. Arrange SAT/ACT scores to be sent to NCAA - they display them superscored, it is official and coaches can see them. On the recruiting web sites put all relevant info including projected GPAs. Coaches usually have an ability to create lists of recruits with required stats.
The most important is to communicate your academic stats and current curriculum/projected curriculum to Ivy coaches in emails and have a resume with all current athletic/academic/ECs accomplishments as well as the most current transcript and test scores screenshots ready to go in digital form. Eventually you may get a request to provide all this info for an academic pre-read done by admissions.
