Transcripts...

I know this topic has def. been discussed in the past, but I'm still not sure what's going on...

I ordered my transcripts be sent to UVa about 5 weeks ago, and they still aren't showing up as recieved on the website. I know everything is chaotic and backed up down there, and I know others have inquired about this problem like 80 times already, but how long before they are acknowledged? I'm only concerned b/c the deadline is two days from now, and I want to be sure they're there. Any suggestions?

Chessie, we aren't even in transfer mode right now. Give it a few weeks.

No prob, I just wanted to be sure all my bases were covered. Thanks.

Last year, none of my stuff was updated till mid/late-March when everything was finally due. I'm pretty sure that the only thing that popped up was recs because they're automatic online, but that may not have even happened till March. Start worrying maybe the last week of March/first week of April. That's when they'll be shifting over to transfers and it'll give you enough time to get one in if needed. But, with much much much fewer transfers applying, I found they were having a much easier time keeping track of stuff (I sent in two additional things and they found it all, plus my app, plus recs)

Keep an eye on Dean J's blog in the last week of March, she let us know last year when they finished first year decisions (for the most part) and moved on.

Thanks for the insight, shoe. I guess now I just sit back and wait... (I submitted the app. today.) I must say, it's def. nice to finally have everything done...I'm sure the wait is gonna be brutal though...

Haha, I am in the same exact boat. I just submitted everything today, the wait will kill me. Do we have to send 2nd semester mid-term grades?

I don't think there is any formal mid-term grade form. However, if I understand correctly, you can just make your own form and have your professors state your current grade and sign off on it. (Do a search on the topic to make sure I've got this right.) I don't think I'm going to bother, as I'm applying as a 3rd year, but I would imagine it might be important for 2nd years.

btw, what are your stats/IS or OOS/blah blah blah.....?

I am in state, currently freshman, so I am hoping to be at UVA from the start of my sophomore year.

HS GPA: 3.5
College GPA: 4.0

Hopefully we both get in, UVA is my dream school.

sudstar,

is it any easier to get into UVA as a transfer student already in college? i applied as well but i am thinking that i will have to go to my backup college first and reapply next semester. any thoughts?

DO NOT go into one college thinking you'll transfer to another. You can't transfer to UVA until after your first year, and it'll be a looonngg, miserable first year if you just plan on transferring. Go where makes you happiest and enjoy it!

I don't think it's easier to transfer...instead, it's maybe about the same. Because of the auto-accept thing going on, less 4-year students will be accepted probably in the long run. But it's about 30% for both first years and transfers, and some schools are much harder as a transfer to get into than it is as a first year.

rightous101,

I don't think it's easier to transfer to UVA from another college, compared to getting in straight out of high school. The transfer rate for 2007 was around 37% and that includes out of state students, and students coming from the Virginia Community College system who have guaranteed admission to UVA if their GPA is a set level.

Also, I knew for a fact that I wanted to go to transfer to UVA even before the first day of college at another university. Some might say this is a bad attitude to have when approaching college life/education, but it worked out well for me. Since I was motivated to attend UVA I got a 4.0 my first semester and I still found time to enjoy the life at my current university. If you are really keen on going to UVA (as I am), and are unable to attend starting freshman year, then go to a college you like, do well, and apply for transfer.
