"This year 40 students were admitted from over 1,100 applicants. "

That's 3.6 %. Is this a bluff or is it legit - that seems ridiculously low... Whats the freshman acceptance isnt it around 10%?

If its on the Harvard Website, why wouldn't it be legit? A 3.6% transfer rate does not surprise me at all. Yale and Stanford have similar statistics. Truth is, there is only a limited number of space for transfers. That explains why its harder to get in as a transfer admit than freshmen acceptance.

It does not explain why. It just explains that it is. Does anybody know why?

two years ago, they admitted 75 transfer students. last year, they had to cut it down to 40 because they accepted more freshmen. i don't know if they're keeping the numbers the same for this year, though.

More freshmen accepted + high yield rate + high retention rate = less free places for transfers.

Less free places for transfers + high number of applicants for transfer = low acceptance rate for transfers.

Get it?

Since they got rid of EA this year, maybe they'll take a few more sophomore transfers if there are some extra spots left? Here's to hoping...
