I currently go to CCSU which is a state university in connecticut. I am an accounting major looking to transfer to school in california. I have relatives who live here and have visited many times, fell in love, and now would love to go to school here. My issue is that i don't exactly know where to start my search for a good school for me. I definitely would like to be in the SoCal area (San Diego, LA, Riverside, etc..) where my relatives live close by. I do want to dorm at school though. I would like a school that has a good business/accounting program. I also don't want to go throw my money away applying to schools that i definitely won't get into. I have a 3.44 gpa now (my first semester), had around a 3.5 in high school, 1740 SATs, 25 ACTs. If anyone could recommend good business schools that i have a good chance of getting accepted into, that'd be great. Thanks!

from the schools you listed it sounds like your talking about the cal states. In that case it is very expensive to go to school out here if your out of state. On top of that UCs give priority to all the community college transfers.(I believe like 80%+ is cc and other 20% is other transfers) I would say look into UCI UCR UCSC USC would be a reach avg gpa is a 3.7 and UCD

Thank you! Would you recommend going to a community college and then transferring to a cal state?

NO!!! do not go to a community college on avg students are now taking three years to transfer. It is best to just apply and see what you get into. I would say you have a better chance at transferring to a cal state than a UC. (most cc students want to transfer to a UC)

Okay, sounds good. Thanks for the advice!

You definitely want to look at the Cal States. Most UCs do not offer an accounting major. Maybe start by looking at Cal Poly Pomona, SDSU, and CSULB.

By the way, I went to a community college for my Freshman/Sophomore coursework. It took me longer because I changed my major and needed to satisfy a bunch of prerequisites, and on top of that, I worked while going to school. If you intend to move to CA anytime soon, I would recommend the CC -> CSU transfer. During your time at a CC, you can find a job which will help you justify CA residency, bringing the tuition cost down. Besides, the application period for Fall 2012 has ended, and few CSUs admit students in the spring.

I would seriously apply as a transfer student to cal states, UC’s, privates, and see what you get into. If you do not get into any 4-years then I would consider a cc. CC are great if you are coming straight out of high or looking to go back to school but I would not recommend it for your situation. Have you considered finishing at your four year and coming to California as a graduate student you would have a really good shot at getting in provided you hold a good gpa.
