Transfer Admissions Doubts!

How hard it is to transfer to Dartmouth? What r the statistics like(act average score, GPA, etc)? I'm an international student from Brazil who needs full ride and they are need-aware for intl's! What's the social life off campus like(city, night life, etc)? Does Dartmouth tend to be more conservative or liberal? Thanks!

Dartmouth is need blind for international students. IF admitted they will meet 100% of your demonstrated need (remember they not you determine how much you need).

The one downside is last year was a very big and full class. This means it will be very hard to transfer in unless a good number of people transfer out.

Nightlife is an oxymoron when applied to Dartmouth!

Well there is nightlife … but it’s all contained within the campus, unless you drive (or fly) out to Toronto or Boston

^ Dartmouth’s social scene is said to be dominated by fraternities and sororities, so I would expect the nightlife to be pretty fun. To answer your question, OP, Dartmouth is very hard to transfer into; I was rejected last year. I remember the rejection letter stating that just under 4% of applicants were admitted. I then checked the boards on CC and noted that three or four of the people who were admitted were non-traditional students; that is, students who are much older than the average applicant. Deduce from this what you will.

But, is there something to do in Hanover, especially at night? I’m worried about being shocked by Dartmouth’s isolation if I be admitted, considering that before attending I’ll be living in Rio de Janeiro (over one thousand inhabitants).

So, considering the acceptance rate, do u think I’m better off aplying to some colleges that altough need-aware for intl’s, I’d have real chances, like Lafayette or Occidental College? Thanks!

Again, the social scene is great. As for other schools, there’s a huge disparity between Dartmouth and Occidental. If you have the stats, apply to a number of schools. And keep in mind that as an international transfer, needing FA is going to limit your options to schools that accept 1-5% of transfers.

The social scene is dominated by the frats and fueled by alcohol. There are a few things to do beyond that but if you don’t like drinking, heavily, you will have to look hard to find your niche. It can be and is done, though.

Altough the social scene on campus is great, what about the scene off campus? Is there anything to do in Hanover at night? Do you think I would get used to the area, considering that before attending I will be living in Rio de Janeiro?

I don’t have the stats to apply to a lot of colleges, that’s why I wanna know whether to apply to Dartmouth because of its need-blind policy to intl’s or to some other college, that altough need-aware, I would have better chances to be admitted to. What do you think? What would u do?

Lobzz: If possible, could you tell me what ur statistics were when u applied (ACT score, GPA, etc)? So, next year, I can check mine and decide whether or not to apply.

Thanks 4 ur patience!

Although I prefer not to post stats, my college GPA was between the 25th and 50th percentile of accepted students. However, my HS GPA and SATs weren’t particularly fascinating. I’d like to remind you that it goes beyond numbers; as long as they ascertain that you will not flunk out, they start to see whether or not they can fit you into the class you’re applying to.
