Hello! I’m currently a junior at a four-year liberal arts institution. I attended this university for its language program, its mandatory study abroad, and its financial aid. Unfortunately, however, the financial aid offered to me this year was significantly less than that of previous years: I’ll need to transfer after my junior year is over. Is a transfer feasible at this point? I plan on taking a semester abroad this spring semester, which is part of the mandatory study abroad aspect I mentioned earlier.
This school does not have majors; it has concentrations. My current concentration is Humanities. Specifically, I’ve mostly been taking philosophy and literature classes.
Soka University of America
The degree received upon graduation would be a bachelors in liberal arts
GPA: High School 3.4; College 3.7
Units taken toward GPA: 66
SAT: 1910 I did best in the reading and essay sections
ACT: 31 Scored perfectly on the essay; didn’t do so well on the science portion
My aim is to attend an institution with a good philosophy program. My current college only has one philosophy professor and no philosophy department. Would it even be possible for me to transfer to a philosophy department of another school? I received almost all A+s for my philosophy classes; but would a college care about those grades if they are given by someone who isn’t part of an official philosophy department? Additionally, a recommendation letter from this professor unfortunately isn’t an option at this point.
How do I handle the transfer process if I’ll be studying abroad from January of 2018 until late June of that same year? Has anyone experienced anything like this before?
So far, my plan is to transfer to the main public university of my home state. Do you have any advice?
Thank you for reading!
