I still find myself unhappy with the school I am at, and I feel as though I made the wrong choice. I was accepted for the fall 2012 term of some other great universities closer to home, and I am wishing that I chose one of those schools instead. I was just wondering how it works if you want to transfer out of a school and into one of the schools you were already accepted to but never accepted. Would I have to reapply and then hope to get in as a freshman? Or can they acknowledge my previous acceptance and let me enroll?

Of course, your schools may handle things differently, but D was able to transfer out of one school and into another (second semester freshman year) without having to reapply. She called her admissions counselor and the original offer was reinstated, including merit aid. Looking back though, I’m not sure that this was the best decision for her. It’s still early in the year, and you may still need more time to adjust and get comfortable. Remember, there was probably a good reason that you chose this school.

sheepster - said it just right… call your new 1st choice as soon as you know what you want.

Agree with the other members: some may reinstate, others will let you reapply as a fr, and some will require that you apply as a transfer. You need to read the college website or call to find out what an individual school does in this case.

I am having the same feelings, but I think this is kind of normal for freshmen, especially since this was a big decision in our lives. I keep telling myself that I don’t KNOW for SURE that I’d be happier at the other institution, USCarolina, which offered an almost full-ride scholarship. But I do wonder if I transfer after one semester freshmen year if they will still reinstate the offer including merit aid like sheepster’s D

How did this work out? I am having the same problem.
