Transfer Applicant Essay :)

Hi guys! Thanks for taking a look at my discussion. I just applied to UC's as a transfer applicant, and I wanted to get a few opinions about what my ideas.

Transfer applicant prompt: What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement.

I wrote about how my interest in psychology developed when my childhood best friend developed anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. When I took my first psychology course, I was beginning to grasp a better understanding of what had impacted me and my loved ones. It inspired me to pursue psychology. I began taking interest and started viewing everything from a psychological perspective; at my work place where I applied what I had learned in developmental psychology with children, self-introspection, and on a world scale of hoping to help eliminate the stigma of mental health.

General prompt: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

I talked about my experience of being a first-generation college student. I didn't know how to prepare & apply for college in high school and basically had to take initiative when I reached community college. I had to learn how to juggle applying for financial aid, maintaining grades, and figure out how to transfer out with the responsibility of a part-time job to top it off. I ended it saying that I was proud of my accomplishment because I was ultimately my own teacher in my journey, and I was able to succeed and achieve my goals to be where I am today.

Let me know what you guys think!

First essay sounds great.
Second essay so-so. I think talking about an organization or group you are involved with is a better strategy for essay 2.

I agree with the above poster.
The first essay sounds fantastic, I would choose a different topic for your second essay.
Good luck!
