Are there any reasonably good schools that don't require teacher recommendations with applications?

I'm in my freshman year, and my classes so far have only been big lecture classes where I doubt the professors really notice any individual students. I would go back and ask my high school teachers who wrote me recommendations originally, but I'd feel bad asking them when they have so many other recommendations to do.

Probably not. The best solution would be to try to get a recommendation from your professors/TAs anyway. Ask colleges that you’re applying to if they’re willing to accept one HS rec.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry much about this. I had a prof and TA do mine together (130-person course) and they were both happy to do it (I think the prof signed it and the TA wrote most of it, but it doesn’t particularly matter). If you want a HS rec letter ask for a short one from a teacher who knows you well and let them know that you need it after the outgoing seniors will need theirs. That way he/she can use the time to finish current students’ recs and start thinking about yours. Good luck!

What they said^^. High school recs will not work. TA recs will, possibly jointly with profs.

There are some “by the numbers” schools, but you’ll have to look for them. I believe McGill is one (warning: VERY early deadline in past years; maybe 12/15?), maybe Purdue, UMich, Miami of Ohio, St. Louis U. These are from a past year for a particular major. YMMV.

Best to develop a list of schools right for you, then see what each requires. Many many students have all lecture classes. Read the Transfer 101 sticky thread and other threads here for ideas on how to get to know profs well enough to get a rec.
