Transfer as a Freshman or wait and transfer as a Sophomore?

Hey guys, I’m currently in a bit of a dilemma and I’m looking for some insight on what I should do next in my academic life. Basically, I was really solid in high school and I ended up completing 4 years of work in 2 years. I graduated with a 4.1 GPA. Though, I didn’t do too hot on the SAT with a score of 1600… Anyways, due to being out of high school so young (16) I went to a nearby community college for a year and I’ve admittedly not done so well. I believe my GPA is around a 3.0 now. It could just be me slacking off, but I really just can’t motivate myself in a community college. My dream is to go to Pepperdine and I believe I would’ve been accepted had I applied straight out of high-school, but due to my age circumstance, I didn’t. So my question is, should I apply as a freshman to Pepperdine for the 17/18 Fall semester or should I push through some more credits to transfer as a sophomore? I feel like if they look at my high-school records I’d have a better chance at getting accepted, but I’m not certain. Any advice would be appreciated.

Since you aren’t feeling motivated right now, could you take some time off and do something else for a year? Alternately, could you just take a bunch of fun classes for a semester at the CC? Surely there were some things that you missed by zipping through high school so quickly. If you don’t want those fun classes to mess up your grades, then take them in the non-credit or continuing education division.

When you know you have your mojo back, that would be the time to apply for transfer.

Thanks for the advice, I definitely feel like I missed quite a bit by rushing through high-school so quickly. I plan on doing some extra curricular activities and joining into a few local sports teams to socialize a bit more for the next few months. However, I’m still unsure of what the best course of action to transferring would be. Do you think I’m better off trying to get in as a freshman transfer or a sophomore transfer? Do colleges look down upon freshman transfers and not accept them often?

Bump.

When you say “apply as a freshman” were you planning on pretending like you never went to community college? Just took a year off?

The best people to answer that are the folks in the transfer admissions offices of the places on your transfer application list. It really, truly, is OK to contact them and ask how they handle students who apply during the freshman year of college, and if they prefer applicants who wait until they are in their sophomore year.
