I would like to transfer from my current school. I am an undergrad freshman right now and I tried walking on to my school’s soccer team but it didn’t work out. Is it possible to transfer to another school and play soccer there but as a recruited player? I am confident that i am capable of playing at this level but my recruiting didn’t go as planned. is this the same process as a normal transfer athlete? also has this been done before? Im not looking for criticism, i’m just wondering if this has been done before. I have connections with coaches back home so i think it could be a possibility.
Sorry the soccer team at your current school didn’t work out. It is hard to say if you might have options to transfer w/o knowing more. Were you playing on a high level club team in high school and did you get any interest from college coaches then? What level college team are you looking at transferring to ? How important are academics to you? Do you like your current school? One thing you might look at is the club level at your current school. These teams are often very competitive with players who might be able to play at a higher level but chose not to for various reasons.
Being recruited to play at another school may be very difficult at this point. Since you are not currently playing there is no way for coaches to see you. I’m not saying it is impossible. If you still have contacts from your club or if there are college coaches who expressed an interest in you at some point then definitely contact them and make sure they know you are interested. There are players who transfer because maybe they are not getting enough playing time, but usually another coach has expressed interest. Also I don’t know if you did a try-out with the team at your current school, or if you practiced with them before being cut. If so be aware the NCAA might consider you a transfer student and as such you might have to get permission from the Athletic Director at your school to talk to another coach. Maybe if you let us know about your current situation we can be of more help.
