Transfer Chance and Advice

Hi Everyone!
I'm currently a freshman at a public school in North Carolina, and I was rejected from W&M RD last year. My prospective major is Business and minor in Middle Eastern Studies/Arabic. I plan on applying for Fall 2011, and I have a few questions and was wondering if you guys could chance me :)

HS Stats:
GPA: UW 3.5 W 4.0
SAT: 1860
Activities: Prez of Amnesty International, Treasurer of NHS, Prez of Movie Club, tutoring, etc.

College Stats:
GPA this fall:3.65 (Calculus-A, Psychology-A, Intro to Global History-A, Freshmen Seminar-A, Environmental Geology-B+, Anthropology-B-)
Activities: Amnesty International, Association for Campus Entertainment (creative promotions committee), Flicker Film Society and Entrepreneurship Club.
Spring 2011 Classes: Microeconomics, English, Ancient-Medieval Art History, Islam (300 level course) and Philosophical Thinking

What does W&M look for in a transfer applicant? Lots of ECs, really good GPA, etc? Does the essay mean a lot in transfer admissions? W&M is my top choice, and I really hope my high school stats don't hinder me too too much.

Advice and chances are very much appreciated :)

which school in nc?

UNC Wilmington

W&M looks at your college record first and foremost. Looks like you’re taking great courses and we like to see a 3.5 GPA or higher which it sounds like you’re on track to do. Since you’ll only have one full-time semester of college when you apply be sure to send your mid-term grades.

We also look at extracurricular activities (and we’ll appreciate your involvement), your essay (well-reasoned reasons for transferring), and any other information you provide. It sounds like you’re on the right track for being a competitive transfer applicant. Good luck

Thank you very much W&M Admissions! I feel a lot better now :)

Just like in the freshmen admission process, does W&M favor IS transfers over OOS transfers?

While certainly deference is always given to IS applicants, the transfer process doesn’t have a strict ratio because we are dealing with fairly small numbers compared to the freshman pool.
