Transfer chances and advice.

Hello everyone. I am considering transferring and would really appreciate some advice and thoughts on my chances of successfully transferring.

High school GPA: 2.8
ACT score: 27
College: Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
College GPA: 3.5 after first semester. I plan on having a higher GPA this semester.
Extracurricular: none so far. I plan to join a few clubs this coming semester.
Major: English with secondary education minor

Schools I am looking at transferring to:
Marquette University
University of Texas at Austin
University of Iowa
Loyola University Chicago

I am still in my freshman year of college so I am not sure if i should wait one more year to raise my GPA. Also I am afraid my abysmal High School record will ruin my chances to transfer to the schools I am looking at.

Can someone please respond

UT Austin will probably want to see an extra semester or two of college level work since your high school record is admittedly kind of weak. Not sure about the others.

Does anyone know about Marquette or Loyola?

“Does anyone know about Marquette or Loyola?”

Your HS Grades are on the low side for both schools and may hurt your chances a bit if you apply now. Of the two, I’d consider Marquette to be a little harder to get into, but neither school completely out of reach. You have nothing to lose by applying.

As an aside, I don’t think a HS transcript is required by Loyola for consideration for transfer admission after one has successfully completed a certain number of college classes. (20 credit hours?). Doublecheck all that with Admissions though, as I’m not positive. If this is true, and provided you are confident you will do just as well or better than you did last semester and will meet this, you could just wait until right after the end of your freshman year to apply for fall '14 to get around having to send your HS grades. Loyola does rolling admissions. The obvious risk though is that the spaces may be filled by that time. I’m not recommending one way or another. It’s just an alternative for you to think about.

I’m not sure whether to apply this year or wait until i have completed another year of college. I know my high school GPA is quite low, but my ACT score seems to be on par with Marquette. Anyone have any advice or experience transferring after two years of college

Ok so this past semester I got a 3.25, which brings my cumulative GPA to a 3.375. I’m worried this isn’t good enough to transfer to any of these schools, so I guess I’ll wait until next year and try to raise my grades as high as I can.I think if I complete two years of college before transferring they will focus on my college grades rather than my high school grades, which are admittedly weak for all the schools I mentioned. If anyone can give me any insight as to what type of GPA I would need to be admitted in to the schools I mentioned it would be greatly appreciated.
