Transfer chances at Georgetown or GW...

Here are my stats:
High School GPA: 3.1 (strong junior and senior year grades)
SAT I: 1090
College GPA: 4.0 (24 credits)
Extracurriculars: Volunteered for Kerry Edwards Campaign, MoveOn, DNC, Democracy for America, and Act4Victory.

I am very concerned about my weak high school record and SAT scores. I do have strong grades in 11th and 12th grade. My 11th grade GPA was a 4.0, and my senior year gpa was a 3.6. I am currently attending a Penn State satellite campus and currently majoring in political science.

Did you apply this year? I think you have a good shot at GW, Georgetown on the other hand is a little iffy. Your GPA is great, a great essay, interview and good EC's will help you.

Are you a freshman in college right now? Remember, the more time you spend out of high school the less emphasis they put on HS grades. Also, what school at Georgetown did you apply to? That actually plays a huge role in your acceptance chances.

I'm currently a freshman and I applied to the college.

Your SAT may have an impact.

Yeah, I know my chances would be greatly improved by applying next year. But it never hurts to try.

Actually, pooh jackson, I disagree with Nikki's post in regard to high school grades. Though your chances may be better next year, your high school GPA is not as detrimental to your chances as some would make you believe.

What harms you, in my opinion, is your SAT and ECs; the SAT serves as a crucial indicator of how well you will perform at Georgetown. Numerous individuals have forwarded this advice to me.

Nerd, I mean Nspeds. :) (hehe) I don't disagree with what you're saying at all, all I said (or meant) is that the more time one spends out of high school, the less emphasis admissions commitees put on high school grades and SAT scores. HS grades will weigh fairly more for someone who only has one semester of college grades to show at the time of application vs. someone who has three or more semesters of college work at time of application. :)

nspeds, my interviewer told me that test scores play very little or no role in transfer admission...and he serves on the SFS Dean's Board! First hand info :)

Yes, but I think a high SAT score negates this problem; this is why I contend that his low SAT score may have a bigger issue, since the only factor in his favor is the college GPA, that, too, which only consists of 24 hours.

technically..it's probably only 12 credits, ya know what I mean? I mean, 24 credits may be completed by end of freshman year but probably only 12 at application time, which is what they will have in front of them.

I agree..SAT's are huge, unless you're old like me. :D

I agree with Nikki. But then I heard exactly what Helen of Troy said so...

What about the weight of the HS GPA?

We never touched that topic...unfortunatelly :( (should have asked since my second semester senior year grades were poor)
