Transfer Chances for BU, Michigan State, Rutgers

Hey guys, I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Arlington as an Advertising Major. Never applied there, as I got in there via the UT-Austin CAP program (Texas applicants probably know what I mean). Unfortunately, I messed up on the math requirement of the program (got an D with a hardass teacher) instead of dropping it like I should've. Thus, that has messed up my GPA.

I have every intention to get out of there. UT Arlington is incredibly boring!! Little to no school pride. Also, I really want to get into a good advertising program. Academically, I don't feel like I'm part of an academically challenging environment at all. Almost feels like I'm in high school sometimes.

In any case:

GPA: 3.0 flat.
Trying out for: Fall 08
Schools: BU, Michigan State, Rutgers, and (maybe) UT Austin.

Quick questions:

-I've noticed that my ECs appear somewhat lacking. I've participated in intrumeral Basketballs tournaments and practice (literally) at the gym for 2 hours a day. I wish to tryout for the basketball team (UT Arlington did not hold a tryout the past year and this semester). How much would that hinder my chances?

-Does anyone know any other good advertising programs I have a remote chance of getting into? I considered U of Florida, Syracuse and U of Illinois Urbana as well, but my GPA does not help me at all.

-How much will my high school grade matter, considering my sophomore status?

-Should I wait one more semester all together?

Feel free to comment, anything helps!!!!! If i left detail u feel is necessary to state, let me know!

Rutgers- is very unlikely b/c your out of state and a 3.0 is not considered competitive for the school let alone an OOS applicant

BU- is very unlikely

Michigan State- I think you have a better shot there than the latter

UT Austin- dont know much about this school for instate applicants

I would wait one more semester and try to get your grades up to about a 3.3+ which will then make you competitive for all of the schools your applying to.

Sophmore status doesnt help as much as junior status, so i would suggest you wait
"I don't feel like I'm part of an academically challenging environment at all."

well dont mention this in the essay, b/c that it is not going to be believable when you have a 3.0 flat

..........Bump........

ixjunitxi is right for the most part; that 3.0 is a killer.
