Hello I will be attending either RPI or Northeastern for Electrical engineering. I want to transfer to Carnegie Mellon or Cornell after the first or second year at RPI or northeastern. What are the chances of that happening for someone with my stats (I know college GPA will be important):
SAT: New (1520) 770 Math and 750 SAT
GPA: 94/100 unweighted (near 4 on out of 4 scale) 4.5 unweighted
SAT II (subject, score): Japanese - 660; Math 2 - 800; Chemistry - 760
AP taken: Chemistry (3), Physics-1 (4), English Composition (4), US History (5)
AP taken right now: Calculus BC, English Literature and Composition, World History, Statistics, Physics C Mechanics
Bangladeshi Male from NY
Awards: National merit finalist, AP scholar with honor
Lots of volunteering at place of worship, average ECs, played soccer and Tennis
Hello,
I am currently a prospective transfer student applying to Carnegie Mellon for the Electrical and Computer engineering school. I was told by CMU admissions counselors that transfer admission is very competitive and in some years they don’t even accept transfers. This is due to the limited space available for transfers. So it would seem since this can vary year to year it might just depend when you apply. Also, admissions told me Electrical/Computer Engineering and Computer Science are the most competitive schools within CMU to apply for transfer. If I get in I will let you know, here are my stats:
-30 graded units with 4.0 GPA from 3 different colleges(National American university, American Military University, and Embry Riddle Aeronautical university)
-My coursework includes: college algebra, pre calc, Calc 1, Eng comp 1, public speaking, General Chem 1 with lab, survey of physics with lab, principles of management
- Currently finishing up Calc II and will be enrolled/done with Calc III before the fall start date
-Active duty Air Force(total of 4.5 years of service)
- multiple military awards such as Airman of the year, airman of quarter, early promotions etc…
- approximately 400 community service hours mostly in youth sports also in various organizations like meals on wheels, relay for Life etc…
-4 years technical experience in mechanical and electrical technology working as HVAC/R technician
-High school background is strong for extracurricular but low GPA(graduated 2012)
Sorry if that doesn’t help much, best of luck!
Why are you thinking of transferring when you haven’t even started college yet? RPI is a great engineering school (don’t know about Northeastern) so why transfer to a similar school like CMU?
Transferring is difficult because of limited space, but not impossible. You’ll just have to try it. But like the above post ^ says, not sure what the benefits are of transfering from RPI to CMU are since they’re basically peers in terms of engineering.
I’d pick RPI over Northeastern for EE. Work hard, get a high GPI (RPI is tough!) and if you still want to transfer, apply and see if you get it.
Hey Guys,
Does anyone know how competitive it is to get in to Tepper school of business? As an external transfer
