I am planning on transferring to USC as a junior, majoring in Public Health for fall 2013. Out of state student. Currently my GPA isn't that great because of family issues going on last spring semester. HOWEVER, right now I have A's in all of my classes, and I should have a cumulative GPA of 2.94-3.1 (in between that range, aiming for a 3.05). At the end of the year my GPA will hopefully be around a 3.2-3.4, but since I am wanting to hear back as soon as I can (December, January) I guess those won't matter as much in the decision.

So, what are the chances of getting in as a transfer (junior), OOS student, with a 3.0-3.1 gpa?

Look at transfer page on admissions. Min. GPA for public health is 2.75 and overall for transfer is 2.25. You need to check with admissions and college of public health to get best information.

From what I understand, they do appear to really like transfers and encourage transfers and Spring semester enrollment. Naturally, like at every college, some students leave after each semester, so transfers helps to keep all the class sizes about the same size.

I suspect that with the success of many of their programs and a lot of national recognition, there will be lots of transfer applicants though, so it will still be competitive.

Also! Anyone know how hard it is to get in for the spring semester? I went down to USC this weekend and stayed with a friend and I absolutely fell in love with the city and school! I am so miserable at my current school that I just want to get out. So I thought I’d ask about spring transfer as well! Thanks.

I think that is pretty feasable. Lots of “normal” applicants actually are denied fall semester admittance but are admitted for the second semester, so I assume that it may actually be slightly easier to be admitted for the second semester. You do need decent grades at the school you are in now though, and it may be that you have waited too late to apply (I dunno).

Thank you again imagep! The only thing holding me back applying for spring 2013 is financial aid. The deadline for spring semester is November 1st, with the credentials due by January 4th. I will have decent grades now, I have all A’s (one B/B+) in my classes and should have above a 3.8 GPA for the semester. My current GPA is a 2.64 and with a GPA above 3.8 it will go to a 3.0-3.1. I think that is a lot of improvement right there, but does that even matter? Sorry I feel so dumb asking this but I am so worried!!
