How hard is it to get into the B.A. Public Health Program?

Just what the title says.

I am trying to transfer to USC with a GPA of 3.02 (raised from a 2.64). The requested GPA is a minimum 2.75 GPA for public health. Was wondering if I could get in?

Thanks

I am also interested in this major. What do you plan to do with a B.A. in public health? I think that a 3.02 is good, but if I were you, I would try to raise it up a bit.

I would like to run a hospital, or some part of a hospital.

That GPA is way better than my last one. I had a 2.64 until this semester and raised it up to a 3.02 from this past fall semester. So I am still trying to raise it up. But right now that is all I have for them to make a decision on. Do you go to USC? Do you think I have a good chance of getting in? I don’t know if I should change my major on my application to something like sociology and then when I get to the school change it to public health. I just really want to get into USC!

I don’t think Public Health is one of the majors that requires a special application. I think that as long as you have the minimum acceptable GPA, then that’s okay.

For what it’s worth, I have a friend who is Pre-Pharm and her back-up is public health and she has right at a 3.0.

Are you looking to transfer into USC? I think that admission is based on admission to the university and not by what you list as your preferenced major. I know I changed my major after being accepted and everything was fine. I know a lot of other people who did the same thing, even changing schools/colleges.

Hey AUGirl, yep I want to transfer into USC. That would be awesome if admission is based on admission to the university. It would definitely help my stress level go down since getting into the university only requires a 2.25 gpa, and I have a 3.02. I guess I should just stick to my major that I put on the application then? Just everything is stressing me out haha.

^I would call to confirm that just to be sure, but that’s the way it works with freshman admissions. It could be completely different with transfer students.

Out of curiosity, are you transferring from a CC, branch campus, or public school in SC? If so, that’d probably help your chances anyways since there are lots of reciprocal agreements and its really common.

Nope :frowning: I am from out of state college (NC college). So that hurts my chances a lot?

I’m not sure it hurts your chances, but may have more hoops to jump through to get credits accepted since there are automatic equivalents from tech and branch schools in SC. I would talk to a transfer student counselor to be sure you have all your ducks in a row.

I’m not a student yet, but I am looking to transfer, probably Fall 2013 or '14. I currently go to a community college in South Carolina right now. I’m trying to decide between this major or a major in Social Work. I know I want to minor in Spanish though. I think that you have a good chance, but I would try and call U of SC to speak with a transfer counselor to get some more insight. Good Luck!
