Transfer - chances of graduating in 4 years

My son; who is finishing up his freshman year, is looking at transferring to the undergrad business school at USC. My concern is his ability to graduate in an additional 3 years. When I look at the class schedule listing, it appears that there are a ton of the classes he needs that are already full. Is it difficult to get into the classes you need to stay on track for 4 year graduation? With OOS tuition, I really don’t need another $40k thrown on top of what we are already in for.
The school he is leaving has controls on the number of students admitted to the business school; and the various majors within, to ensure the ability to get into classes and graduate in 4 years.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Has he already been accepted as a transfer or is this something you’re looking at? I think you need to contact one of the transfer admissions people and see if you can find someone to go over what program of study he will have to follow. I think it greatly depends on where he is coming from and how many of his freshman courses will transfer.

He may have to take more than 15 hours some semesters or do some summer school. It would probably help to identify which requirements he can satisfy elsewhere during the summer if it looks like tight scheduling.

Maybe a business student will weigh in about actual availability of business classes.

@scmom12 he is still in the process, but I am fairly sure he will be accepted.
From what I can tell, it appears that nearly all; if not all, of his credits will transfer. He has 34 credits currently.
I think my biggest question/concern is around class availability; more so than ability to complete hours.
Thanks.

This may not be helpful as my DD is in Arts & Sciences not Business…but she has not had difficulty getting overrides to get in classes she wanted to take that were “full.” When I was in large public university many moons ago, a schedule did not change once one secured a seat. Now it seems, stuff happens and seat availability is a lot more fluid. I do have a friend whose DD is double majoring in Business and Fashion. She has not had trouble getting what she needed. A call to the Business School may help you determine what really happens.

@GCBMIB thank you for the insightful response; the information is encouraging. I do see where USC Admissions site now says they are not allowing anymore transfers into business major for current students and also messaging that transfers into business school from other colleges will be limited and competitive…so it appears they plan on managing the class availability to some extent at least. My son is still waiting to hear if he is accepted. We will do some more follow-up and calling if/when that occurs. Thanks again.
