Hello everyone, so I have been considering applying as a transfer student to Cornell for the Spring 2013 semester. I am currently enrolled at U Mass Dartmouth in the English/Writing major as an incoming second semester sophomore (I originally transferred from the Culinary Institute of America).

Anyway, my high school grades were good during my Junior and Senior years, but my SAT scores were very low since I did not think I was going to a traditional college (I got like a 1100 between math and English). I also got something like a 23 on the ACT. Essentially, my vocational high school did not prepare students for the SAT/ACT's since most do not go to college, so naturally I did poorly.

The only two reasons I am even considering Cornell is because of my current GPA over the last year and a half of 3.87 and because my step-father of many years is an alum and I hear that "legacy" is sometimes considered in colleges, even if he is not my blood father (he might as well be).

Be as harsh as you want, but should I even bother applying?

EDIT: Oh, and if it helps my chances, I'm the Arts and Entertainment editor of our college newspaper and the secretary of the Literary Society at U Mass D.
