Transfer chances

Hi,

I am currently a freshman student at Loyola University Chicago and I'm looking to transfer to UW Madison for the fall semester next year.

My high school record is excellent. I took 11 AP courses, 4 honors courses, latin through level 5, weighted GPA of 3.9, 33 ACT, 1480 SAT,National Merit Scholarship finalist, editor-in-chief of the yearbook, active participation in theatre productions, etc.

however, my first semester at Loyola I only received a 2.86 gpa. I am worried this will kill my chances of getting into Madison, especially considering the deadline for application is too early for my 2nd semester grades to be taken into account (though I anticipate them to be much better).

Do I even stand a chance after botching the first semester?

Thanks.
